Holy Week Planning

April 15, 2021

Dear St. John’s Parishioners,

Greetings in the Name our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

As we come to the conclusion of Great Lent, and prepare for Holy Week and Pascha, we are reminded of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness. The past year has brought much hardship, uncertainty, and fear. In the midst of all of this, we celebrate the great Mystery of God’s redemptive love. We celebrate the good news that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, and that He is our hope, our joy, and our peace.

We’ve also been reminded of the gift of gathering together for worship, to receive the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist, and to share koinonia, fellowship with one another. With great thanksgiving, we are able to gather together physically this Holy Week and Pascha. We will continue do so safely, exercising caution and following recommended protocols. Our hope is that this Holy Week and Pascha will be a time for reunion for our parish – a time when we can re-gather as the Body of Christ, in celebration of the victory of the Cross and the triumph of the Resurrection. After such a disruptive year as we’ve experienced, we continue to affirm that our hope and our trust is in God alone, whose perfect love casts out fear.

I invite you all to set aside time in your schedules to attend as many Holy Week services as possible, that together we might walk the Way of the Cross and arrive at Pascha with renewed strength and faith.  Please find the schedule of services attached. Following the Agape Service on Pascha Sunday, May 2, we will share in a feast of roast lamb. The lamb will be provided, but please plan on bringing a side dish or dessert to share.

This year, may we find ourselves living more deeply into the meaning of the Paschal Greeting, as we proclaim with thanksgiving:

Christos Anesti! Alithos Anesti! Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!

Faithfully in Christ,

Fr. David
